Mom and Dad snuck off to the lake, so we enjoyed the day at home. We didn’t stay at home all day, but ran some errands and spent the later part of the day at home playing. While the kids were playing outside, Matt and I sipped on some Tecate, a favorite of ours lately, and I got the camera going.
We’ve been trying really hard to grow some veggies this year, and we’ve had several meals of pesto and some appetizers with basil….. but that’s been about it. We haven’t had much luck until Austin helped us out a bit. He’s the farmer/garden king, and he loads us down with his home grown veggies every time he visits. After working on our plants a little, this is what we have going.
And more on the way….
And even more on the way!
But this is my nemesis lately.
While the kids played, Matt and I cooked dinner. I’ve been trying and trying for years to make cheese grits like B-Bob’s but so far, none have matched….. or even been close. I keep meaning to ask for her recipe, but I always forget. But tonight, I think I got pretty close to matching B-Bob’s. Matt seemed to think so, but I need A. D. or Austin or Dad to be a judge. Regardless, I couldn’t help but take a picture of the outcome. Doesn’t that look like perfection?
And here’s Matt’s perfection. Yum!
In my earlier “Animal” entry I forgot a couple of things that Cole does that reminds me of Max. He LOVES chewing on shoes. Everyday I pull someone’s shoes out of his mouth. He also loves getting tangled up in all the computer wires, and while he’s there, he loves chewing on the wires. And, the kid loves playing fetch. He has a few balls that he loves to play with. Luckily, I was at Costco the other day, and they had a set of 6 sensory balls. Cole has had so much fun with them. And, he’s pretty tough. His daddy will throw the balls at him (which makes me a bit nervous), but Cole doesn’t even flinch. He just lets it hit him, watches it roll away, then takes off as quick as he can to get it, and lunges forward to get it.
And, Cole can tear up a room in a second. I literally left the room for a second (okay…. more like 30 seconds) to walk to the computer room and heard Cole in the bathroom. I walked in to find this.
He ransacked the trash, the cabinets, and Chloe’s potty. I’m so glad the toilet lid was down.
Cole has learned to drop down once he pulls up. He no longer stands there and cries. He’s got it all figured out! Some action shots to prove…..
Just a few funny things Chloe has said lately that I wanted to write down….
She was standing on her tip toes, looked at me very excitedly and said, “Look, Mommy! I pirouette!” I have no idea where she learned that.
When we finish a bottle of wine, I always throw the corks in the same bowl. Chloe was playing with the corks, and she asked, “Mommy, what these?” I answered, “They are corks.” She replied, “They go on you juice.”
While riding in the car, Chloe let out a big, loud yawn and was rubbing her eyes. I turned around and looked at her and she said, “I not tired at ALL!”
I know I’m forgettting some, so I’ll add as they come to me. I need to start writing them down as soon as Chloe says things.
Lately, I have my good days, and I have my bad days. Today was a bad day. I woke up hearing about Ted Kennedy losing his battle to brain cancer, and it made me sick. It took my breath away. It hit home. All I could think about was Dad. About how he has brain cancer. About how it’s so unfair and about how it makes no sense. About how I still think I could wake up from a nightmare. But it’s real. And today I was sad. And I didn’t want to leave my house or change out of my pajamas. But I have two precious, little kids that deserve better than me acting that way. And, we had plans to meet up with some great friends that were in town. So, Sarah, if I seemed out of sorts, I was, and I apologize. Just know that our park date did wonders for me, and you were some great therapy for me. Of course, my kids had a blast. Miss Kathy saved the day by keeping an eye on Chloe (who is becoming surprisingly fearless). Wow! It’s hard keeping an eye on two kids at the park…. especially when one child is crawling and will put any and everything in his mouth. We were so busy I didn’t get any pics of Lucy or Chloe. I hate that! I’ll just have to do better next time.
Here’s Cole eating all of Willa’s food.
(And by the way…. Cole is 10 1/2 months and is wearing shorts that are sized 3 to 6 months…. and they are HUGE on him.) 🙂
Willa is walking!! She needs to teach Cole a thing or two! 🙂
I could not get Cole to take his morning nap before we left for the park, so I knew we were going to have an “interesting” day. He was exhausted when we left the park, and Chloe and I both did everything in our power to keep him awake on the way home….. to no avail. When I pulled in the garage, I very gently got him out of the car and very quietly tiptoed to his room. I put him down in his crib and snuck out of his room. Then, of course, he awoke. On the monitor, I could hear Cole playing, but I let him go because he wasn’t crying, and I thought he would eventually fall asleep. Well, after about 25 minutes, he started crying. I went into his room to give him a bottle (hoping to get him back to sleep), and I have no idea where in the world this came from, but his crib was covered in dirt! His crib was covered, his face was covered, his hands were covered, and it was all in his mouth. ????? When I got him out of the car, there was no dirt in sight. Obviously he had gotten into the dirt at the park, but I have no idea where he stored it. I had to clean him up, rake all the dirt out of the crib into the floor, and vacuum the floor. I’m still puzzled….. and still wishing I would have gotten a picture!
Cole has another tooth! The left tooth next to his big top tooth finally came through! He only has 5 teeth, but this teething is killing me already!!! Me, me, me…..right? As hard as it is on me, I can’t imagine what the poor little guy is going through. Not only is it affecting his gums, but it upsets his tummy, disrupts his sleeping, interferes with his eating, makes his nose run, and gives him the worst diaper rash. These babies have it rough.
It was such a cool, nice August day, and what better is there to do on a Sunday afternoon than heading to the park with good friends? Nothing, so that’s exactly what we did! Courtney, Jason, and sweet Jake met us at the park, and it was great hanging out. It was a ton of fun watching Jake and Cole play together, and it was funny that they both wanted to play with Chloe’s pink sunglasses over all the other toys. Cole is not very good at sharing yet! Courtney and Jason were great to hang out and play with us, and we so enjoyed their company. Mom and Dad met us at the park as well, and it was a great day. Mom got some really good belly laughs out of Jake…. he is ticklish! Chloe played and played and played, and because I left her drink in the car, she “stole” Jake’s water. I must teach my kids better manners!
Tug-o-war for the glasses.
Looks like Cole won.
Jake got ’em!
Chloe was cracking up over the static in her hair.
